30 Years of the 1st Tyrolean Wood Museum in Auffach
The 1st Tyrolean Wood Museum is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Since its opening on July 12, 1996, a very special place dedicated entirely to wood has flourished in Auffach.
Spanning over 1,000 square meters, there is plenty to discover: historic tools, lovingly designed exhibition rooms, and numerous unique pieces tell the story of woodworking—past and present.
The museum is a living, breathing work of art that has continuously grown. Ongoing expansions since 1985, along with numerous projects and awards, highlight the museum’s special status. Among other accolades, the Wood Museum has been designated as a “SchatzHaus Österreichs” (Treasure House of Austria) and named “Museum of the Month.”
There is also plenty on offer for families: the Pumuckl workshop, a walk-in treehouse, and the LGB garden railway make every visit engaging and diverse.
Behind this success lies the long-standing dedication of its operator and owner, Master Craftsman Hubert Salcher. With great passion and exceptional craftsmanship, he built the Wood Museum from the ground up, turning it into a widely known and popular destination.
The result is a place where craftsmanship, tradition, and a close connection to nature come to life—making it an indispensable part of the Wildschönau region.
